These things disgust me

It is November 26, 2014. I bring that up for a reason. Below is a screen capture of a image that just came across my Facebook page; note the date, then note the caption and the amount of shares it has received so far. I masked out the child’s face and smudged the identities of the people involved.

These sort of posts disgust me down to the cellular level.

Dirt bags who originally post these sort of things on a whim; to get likes or as a joke, are among the lowest level of scum on the planet.

It is bad enough that they are yanking on the heart strings of the gullible (do folks who click ‘share’ really think that there is a group of people anxiously refreshing their FB wall over and over, waiting for the magic moment to arrive when the tally reaches the point that they can fulfill the promise?).

But also, with social media sites being such a common part of everyone’s lives, can you imagine how the hearts of the parents and family members of these children must break when they see the cruel exploitation of their vulnerable loved ones in these most tragic circumstances come across their screen in the form of a twisted act like this; how devastating it must be for them if in the end the child died?

I went to this guys page, the one who posted this image back in December of 2011, almost exactly 3 years ago in fact, and he has a nice picture of him smiling ear to ear with a couple other adults and what looks like a little league team of sorts. And, looking at a photo from May of this year I see he has the sweetest most adorable looking little girl you can imagine who was born maybe a year or so before he posted this picture. He looks like your average American guy; could he really be this heartless?

I want to give the guy the benefit of doubt; I want to think that maybe, having had his little girl bless his life, he is one of the gullible ones and reposted it from some other site; I cant imagine a heart so cold and cruel posting this as a joke when in the next room his whole world is playing or sleeping.

To those of you out there that do post such things as a joke: may God have mercy on your miserable souls.

To the gullible ones who re-post it: get a grip on reality.

When I took the screen capture earlier today and started writing this post the photo had had 38,044 shares; as of this moment it now has over 45,000 shares and is rapidly climbing.

To the family of this young child; my heart breaks for you & I dearly hope & pray that they are okay.

VIDEO – Spirit of America Fife and Drum Corp – May 5th, 2002

For about 21 years the Spirit of America Fife and Drum Corp performed as a sort of pre-show outside the America Pavilion prior to the performance of the American Adventure. On September 27th of 2014 it was retired. Personally I am saddened by its departure; I felt it to be a great addition to the park. And it is one of those decisions that leave me to wonder about the direction Disney is taking for the future. The performance had a nice patriotic message; something we seem to be losing in this country; I hope that they have something equal in the works to replace it.

Purist may disagree but, for me, Main Street Electrical Parade cant hold a candle to SpectroMagic.

This has to be my all time favorite of the Disney night time parades; I loved the music, the floats and brilliant colors. MSEP has the colors and some nice floats …. never too fond of the music though.

Somewhere I think I have a version of this parade filmed with a wider angled lens too; which really lets you see all the beauty of the floats.

Red Thread – Oh the People You Will Meet

Last night Sue came home from work wanting to go to the Build a Bear shop in the mall. She had heard that they had a device you could put in your bear which you could record your voice on; she wants to put our voices on such a thing and present the stuffed animal to Lemondrop in a gift package.

We did buy a couple of the boxes but did not buy a bear; they’re kinda big, and she didn’t really see anything she liked. What she might do now is stick the voice recorder in some other stuffed animal; maybe a Beanie Baby she has stashed away.

After we left the store we of course had to ‘just walk through’ a couple of other stores, like Baby’s R Us; an hour and a half later we made it back to the car.

We then decided to head over to the Red Robin burger place around the corner to grab something for dinner. We had a new waitress this time; new for us at least, by the name of Burgundy. And at some point after we ordered our food and were waiting for it to arrive, I had the niggling thought pop into my head to call Burgundy over, she was clearing the booth behind us, and show her the photos of Lemondrop.

Now, I had no idea how to approach doing this so I played the proud new papa routine (which is not to say that I am not proud, but it isn’t my habit to go up to people and say ‘hey; check out my kid!’.

It turns out that Burgundy, and her sister, are themselves adopted. We had a nice chat with her about her adoption as well as the events in ours, she shared how she was reunited with her relatives: her bio-mom had passed away, and it was her bio-grandmother who discovered their whereabouts after doing a search of Burgundy’s sisters unusual name on Facebook and then contacting her; Burgundy & her bio-sister were adopted by the same family.

As we were going to leave She wished us well & gave us the advice that should Lemondrop ever  give us the ‘you’re not my real parents & I don’t love you’ bit, not to take it seriously; she wont mean it.

As we stood up to go a young lady, now sitting in the booth behind us, spoke to Burgundy and mentioned that she too was adopted and so we shared our adventure and photos with her too. Burgundy pointed out to her the advice she had given us and the other young lady agreed, stating that she has apologized countless times to her adopted parents for similar behavior growing up.

A simple trip to the mall turned into a nice evening; it was great meeting two young people who know exactly what Lemondrop will face and I appreciated their desire to put our minds at ease at what I can imagine might be a common thought process among adopted children & surely would  be a traumatic experience for the parents who want only the best for them.

Video – Lets Watch some fireworks over the castle.

I may not be a huge fan of parades, but I love the art of creating a fireworks spectacular & Disney has some amazing displays.

This particular show was filmed in 2003 and is a representation of what ran for a number of years before it was replaced by what they now show: ‘Wishes’. I will have a copy of Wishes up at some point in time as well.

Most of the time I have filmed the fireworks show standing right in front of the castle, this one though I decided to try something a little different and recorded it from the other end of the street standing on the platform by the train station; a great perspective but the darn flagpole sat front and center in the frame.

Though it may not carry over well here on video; with the diminished color and all, still, watching the ending,  as the huge rockets explode to ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’ always puts a lump in my throat. The last massive gold one is my favorite.

Video: Tapestry of Dreams

Tapestry of Dreams was the replacement for tapestry of Nations. Instead of the Sage of Time you had the Dream Catcher. The parade made its way around the World Showcase, had the same music, was very similar in appearance but I believe was a  bit shorter. It was dedicated to Walt Disney, the greatest dreamer of all. This recording may not be my best version, but is my favorite as my Aunt makes a cameo.
